Sciencesoft Ltd reveals trio of initiatives for local academy

Our commitment to education remains a priority for our team and throughout the year we embark on projects to help schools and universities both in our community and further afield.
Here are details of a new series of initiatives we set up for one of our schools in Glasgow where we are based.
As you’ll read, the school’s area has a strong family connection with our founding directors….

AWARD-winning, international oil and gas software company, Sciencesoft Ltd, has agreed a series of three initiatives to support Springburn Academy.

As part of Sciencesoft Ltd’s ongoing commitment to support education from primary school level through to university, the company has agreed to –

- donate a four-figure sum to the Springburn Academy’s science department to provide additional equipment and resources

- donate cash to support the Academy’s involvement in the Malawi Young Leaders for Learning project

- and fund a new school prize called “The Elizabeth Wood Award for Science” which will be given to a senior pupil excelling in one of the science subjects.

All three of the support initiatives have been set up in memory of the late mother of two of Sciencesoft Ltd’s co-founders and directors, Dr Lindsay Wood and William Wood. Mrs Elizabeth Wood died aged 89 at the end of 2013 and had lived all of her life in the Springburn area.

Commenting on the initiatives, Dr Lindsay Wood, Sciencesoft’s research and development director, said: “While we conduct our business affairs on a world stage, home is very important to me, William and our fellow directors and we wanted to mark in this special way the links our late mother had with the Springburn area.

“Our company has a strong, ongoing commitment to supporting education initiatives from primary school through to university and after hearing about the Academy’s focus on science and its involvement with the Malawi project we agreed to support some of the projects they’re planning for 2014.

“We’re also delighted to set up the new school prize as it will help focus the students on achieving great results in a subject which was very important to me and my brother William at school and in our future studies at university and in our careers and subsequent business activities.”

Springburn Academy head teacher Liz Ervine said: “I am delighted to have support from Sciencesoft Ltd . It is so good to have former pupils from the area acting as role models as well as making positive and practical contributions.”
