Sciencesoft In Education

Sciencesoft has an ongoing commitment to support education from primary school level through to university. Education is a priority for the Sciencesoft team and throughout the year projects are embarked upon to help schools and universities in the local community and further afield.

“While we conduct our business affairs on a world stage, home is very important to us”.

Dr Lindsay Wood, R&D Director, Sciencesoft Ltd

Sciencesoft Scholarship, Strathclyde University
The Sciencesoft Scholarship Programme has been set up with the University of Strathclyde. Sciencesoft has made a seven year pledge to help undergraduate students, studying science or mathematics, who need and merit financial assistance. Today Sciencesoft sponsors five students through this scholarship. Students have found the programme to be of immense benefit and some comments from the students are shown below:

“I am the first in my family to attend university and I hope I can finally work towards a life above the poverty line and in turn financially support my own family. Thank you so, so much. I wouldn’t be this optimistic about my future without your funding”.
BSc (Hons) Mathematics, Strathclyde University Student

“I would like to extend my deepest gratitude and thanks to Sciencesoft Ltd for the scholarship I received. It has been greatly appreciated and has helped me with all the essentials needed to ensure a successful year at Strathclyde University”.
BSc Physics Student, Strathclyde University Student

“The Sciencesoft scholarship has been beneficial to me throughout the year and has definitely made the transition from Secondary to University so much easier than it might have been otherwise. The scholarship has provided me with funding which has enabled me to focus entirely on my studies rather than finding part-time work”.
BSc Mathematics & Statistics with Accounting, Strathclyde University Student

PhD Sponsorship, Glasgow University
In 2011, following a request from the Computer Science Department at Glasgow University, Sciencesoft agreed to be the industrial sponsor of a PhD Studentship in Computer Science. The project involved research into advanced 3D visualisation and the student spent part of the time working within the Sciencesoft Research & Development Department. This student is now a full-time employee of Sciencesoft.

Sciencesoft Summer Internship, Sciencesoft Head Office
Sciencesoft has run a successful, paid Internship Programme for more than 10 years, giving University students the opportunity to gain first-hand experience of working at Sciencesoft. The programme lasts 3 months over the summer period and is open to students studying science-based subjects.  The internship provides a structured overview and practical detail on how the Company’s prize-winning software is built, maintained and sold into a highly competitive, global market. Sciencesoft mentors also guide and advise students on work pressures, preparing them for their careers after graduation.

Go4Set, United Kingdom
The Go4SET project is typically of 10 weeks duration and offers young people aged between 12 to14 the opportunity to develop skills and gain a greater knowledge of how science, technology, engineering and maths can lead to a rewarding career. Sciencesoft have been involved in Go4Set for 4 years and are given a local school to mentor. This involves guiding and supporting the students during the project and visiting the schools to check on their progress. Sciencesoft have driven their Bishopbriggs Academy and Boclair Academy teams to victory in the last two years.

Springburn Academy, Glasgow
Sciencesoft has developed three initiatives:

  1. Sciencesoft annually donates a four-figure sum to the Science Department at Springburn Academy to provide additional equipment and resources.
  2. Sciencesoft supports the Academy’s involvement in the Malawi Young Leaders for Learning Project.
  3. Sciencesoft annually funds a school prize called “The Elizabeth Wood Award for Science” which is presented to a senior pupil excelling in a science subject.

All three of the support initiatives have been set up in the memory of the late mother of two of Sciencesoft’s co-founders and Directors Dr Lindsay Wood and William Wood.

Reservoir Simulation Suite

Sciencesoft’s Reservoir Simulation Suite of products helps engineers analyse the results from reservoir simulators by quickly producing 3D images of a company’s oil or gas field, enabling engineers to make multi-million dollar field planning and development decisions. Reservoir simulators are the main prediction tools used by engineers in petroleum companies to forecast for future oil and gas production.

The Reservoir Simulation Suite consists of:
